While talks on still ongoing with the Minnesota Vikings and quarterback Kirk Cousins, we got some news on Sunday night regarding the future.
According to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, Cousins is expected to hit the free agent market. Pelissero does stress that the Vikings and Cousins’ camp are still in communication but the news coming this late brings a sense of legitimacy to it that we haven’t had before.
Cousins is set to cash in big with whoever he signs with, especially after the Tampa Bay Buccaneers signed Baker Mayfield for $33.33 million average annual value and up to $38.33 million AAV.
The Vikings likely have their offer on the table, and the Cousins camp has to decide whether it’s worth it to stay or officially test the free-agent market. The sides have a soft deadline of 4 p.m. ET on Wednesday, March 13 since that is when his contract voids and free agency officially starts.
