The Indianapolis Colts pulled off a big trade on Wednesday by sending quarterback Carson Wentz to the Washington Commanders. Now, it appears they are in the mix to trade for San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo.
Given that the Colts don’t currently have a starting quarterback, they are in the mix for just about every option available. But Garoppolo is one of the most popular names on the market.
Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reported that the Colts are expected to be in the mix for Jimmy GQ.
The #Colts have now entered the QB race again, and expect them to be in the mix for Jimmy Garoppolo, as well.

It will be interesting to see what happens with the Garoppolo situation. He’s clearly on the way out as No. 3 overall pick Trey Lance is set to take over as the starter.
However, Garoppolo underwent surgery on his throwing shoulder and will be a question mark for the start of training camp. The Colts have had plenty of experience waiting around for a starting quarterback to heal from shoulder surgery.
The other part of the equation comes with Garoppolo’s contract. The Colts got the Commanders to take on the entirety of Wentz’s remaining deal, which was a massive win for Chris Ballard.
But Garoppolo has a cap hit of $26.85 million in 2022 and $26.95 million in 2023. The Colts have the cap space to accommodate if they want to, but that will be the big question.
The Colts will have several options to pursue in free agency and the draft, but Garoppolo’s name is arguably the biggest on the market right now.
