Per new reporting from the Boston Globe’s Adam Himmelsbach, the Boston Celtics will not be pursuing Portland Trail Blazers star point guard Damian Lillard even as they close in on a supermax extension with star Boston forward Jaylen Brown.
According to Himmelsbach, “the Celtics have no intention of entering the Damian Lillard sweepstakes” and instead plan to use their recently-accumulated draft capital to “eventually serve as currency in a larger deal, with the Celtics well-positioned for a seismic strike” for an unnamed future opportunity should the exigencies of the NBA’s new collective bargaining agreement or other factors force a key player off of another ball club.
Don’t get too excited about such a possibility however, with Himmelsbach reporting that while the “spree of recent activity has bred speculation that they could be staking out their big move right now … that appears unlikely.”
What else might be coming from Boston’s front office now that the major moves are nearly done? https://t.co/1p5URx5jTn
