'Reckless' people still sliding over Sefton Park lake after tragic deaths

A number of adults were pictured sliding and walking over an icy lake in the middle of Sefton Park just days after the tragic deaths of four boys.

Pictures of two women walking over the icy lake were taken in the park just after 3pm on Friday, December 16. The women were just yards away from a section of ice that had melted and cracked.

It comes just one day after The ECHO published terrifying footage of ten people sliding over the middle of the same lake. Ten people were filmed by Nick Robinson, 49, from Cressington, walking and sliding on the ice.

One of the men was playing with a football while two women were also seen dancing.

Yesterday Liverpool City Council called out the group who were "risking their own lives". Today, Liverpool Councillor Frazer Lake spoke out to say he was "disappointed" to see more people on the lake after the "tragic circumstances" of last week.

He said: "We need to lead by example on this and actually - in the tragic circumstances of what has happened last week it's really disappointing to see this and frustrating in that people are so recklessly endangering their own lives, and endangering the lives of others."

Earlier this week four boys, including two brothers and a cousin, died after falling through an icy lake in Solihull. The boys involved were brothers Finlay, eight, and Samuel Butler, six and their cousin Thomas Stewart, 11, as well as ten-year-old Jack Johnson.

The families of three of the children who fell into the lake have released pictures and a tribute to their "beautiful boys".

Their parents have said: “As a family we are devastated at the loss of our beautiful boys Tom, Fin and Sam in such tragic circumstances. We would like to thank the emergency services for all they did in rescuing the boys and to the community for their support, it has been overwhelming.

“We would like to pass on our condolences to Jack’s family at this very sad time, and ask for privacy from the media to begin to grieve.”

Thomas’ older brother paid tribute to him and his cousin Fin ahead of the sad news that Sam had died.

He wrote: “Thomas was such a lively little soul, he had a big heart for such a young kid and he was so beautiful. He loved being outside playing with his mates. I love you Tom, big bro will take care of the family and I will see you soon. Make sure you keep practising on warzone and get a win, will you?

“Can’t forget about my dinosaur man Fin, he loved dinosaurs so much and always showing me new things he built on Minecraft and all the new stuff he learnt on it. Gonna miss you little man.”
