Real Madrid make major 'transfer decision' that could hand Liverpool Jude Bellingham boost

Liverpool's hopes of signing Jude Bellingham have been given a major boost after a report in Spain appeared to take Real Madrid out of the running altogether.

It's no secret that the Borussia Dortmund midfielder is the Reds' number one target this summer, but it has been widely reported that they face competition for his signature from both the European Champions and Manchester City.

But the latest update from Spanish sports paper Marca suggests that Los Blancos will not be doing any major business this summer, seemingly ruling out a move for the 19-year-old England international, who is expected to command a transfer fee in excess of £100million.

The claim comes after suggestions that the Brazil national team want Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti as their next head coach. But Marca believes that the former Everton boss will stay put, honouring his contract.

The report said: "As the season progresses, the Italian coach participates in all the meetings for the future of the Madrid entity. In no case has he asked for any revolution to continue in office. The last thing Ancelotti would do would be to put pressure on Real Madrid to give shape to that year of his contract with the rest.

"The first white team, in fact, will face next season without major reinforcements and many of those who rule in Valdebebas consider that Ancelotti is the ideal coach to continue in charge of the Madrid dressing room. That does not mean that objectives are not covered in the Cup and Champions League and the sporting situation invites a change on the bench."

Liverpool's attempted capture of Bellingham is seen as an important step in rebuilding Jurgen Klopp's squad after an underwhelming season. The Reds are expected to let a number of current squad members leave this summer, with the midfield area considered the most pressing area for reinforcement.

News that Real Madrid could be out of the picture is a welcome boost for Liverpool, especially after they were beaten to the signature of midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni by Ancelotti's side last summer.
