Real Madrid kick off the the 2026–27 season away at Espanyol on Saturday, August 22, filled with the kind of cautious hope that only a new manager, a slate of new signings and an untouched league table can bring.
After the disappointments and disasters of the last two seasons, it has been all change at Madrid (sort of). Freshly re-elected club president Florentino Pérez has re-appointed manager José Mourinho and embarked on his tried and tested method of a summer spending spree to win over the fans and restore the world’s biggest club back to the summit of the game.
