A rare 50p coin has sold for a whopping £181 after sparking a 66-way bidding war on eBay.
The silver coin was listed with a starting price of 99p before climbing considerably as bidders upped their offers over a number of days. The winning bidder will pay an additional £32.93 to have the item shipped to the United States.
The coin, which was struck in sterling silver, was minted earlier this year to celebrate the Queen's Platinum Jubilee. Some 2,510 of the coins were produced by the Royal Mint.

It features an equestrian portrait of The Queen by John Bergdahl. The reverse celebrates the Platinum Jubilee with a bold, graphical "70" design by Osborne Ross.
Released earlier this year, the Royal Mint was selling the coins for £102.50 each - but they quickly sold out. This means the seller has made more than a 76% profit, just months after the coins were first distributed.
The eBay listing billed the item as "2022 HM QUEEN PLATINUM JUBILEE. SILVER PIEDFORT PROOF 50p COIN. RARE LTD TO 2500". It sold for £181 on June 13. The sale comes as another rare 50p coin sold for a huge £225.
The coin was released in 2009 and features an athlete doing the high jump. It was designed as part of a Blue Peter competition, with the image drawn by nine-year-old Florence Jackson.
Her drawing was transferred onto the coins, issued ahead of the 2012 Olympic games in London. You can read more about the sale here
