Rangers transfer latest as Todd Cantwell 'set' for Ibrox but fresh Morgan Whittaker bid 'rejected'

Rangers have won the race to sign Todd Cantwell but have had a fresh Morgan Whittaker bid booted out, according to reports.

Michael Beale is a huge fan of the Norwich City midfielder and he looks to have convinced him to make the move north of the border this month with Football Scotland reporting that a fee has been agreed with the English Championship club and a deal in place with the midfielder to make the move to Ibrox. They claim he said his goodbyes at Carrow Road earlier today and could be set for a medical this weekend before officially putting pen to paper.

Another player on the radar is Morgan Whittaker. Swansea City boss Russell Martin stated yesterday that they had booted out an offer from Rangers in a short nine-word response with Beale since claiming he had heard differently in-house at Rangers. However, respected transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has reported that a fresh £1.5million bid was lodged for the 22-year-old but that has been rejected. Swansea shelled out around £400k and at present will not accept the proposal on the table.

Speaking last night following the five-goal thriller with Kilmarnock, Beale told BBC Sportsound: "We are close to one or two bits. I don't want to put a timeline and disappoint anyone. We are close to one or two being announced in the coming days and I'm really pleased with the work everyone has done behind the scenes on that.

"You can see from my face I can't really tell you much more. In the meantime, the boys that are here are doing well and in the coming days we will have news for everyone."

On Ryan Kent and Alfredo Morelos' contract situations, he added: "We are certainly not resigned to them leaving. The schedule has been really heaving and we are finding a break in it to sit down and have a conversation.

"I get on with both boys really well. I've known Ryan longer but they have been excellent for me since I have came in and their commitment is shown by their goals and performances so lets focus on that for a minute.

"Then Ross and myself will talk to these boys. But they have to do what they want to do and give their opinion as well on where they see themselves. There is a lot to be discussed you might say."
