James Tavernier will be the most high-profile star ever to have played in Israel, according to former Bundesliga-based international Gil Vermouth.
The former Rangers skipper has arrived in the country to complete his medical and seal a move to his old Ibrox teammate Kenny Miller's side, Maccabi Tel Aviv. The 34-year-old spent 11 years at Rangers and netted 144 goals in 562 games.
And TV pundit Vermouth, who played in Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands as well as for Maccabi Tel Aviv, believes the arrival of Tavernier is unprecedented in Israeli football. He said: "There has been no player who has signed for a club in Israel with such a high profile as James Tavernier.
