Rangers dealt Morgan Whittaker transfer hammer blow as Swansea City set to include striker in squad for QPR

Morgan Whittaker will be included in Swansea City's squad for their Championship clash with Queens Park Rangers this weekend.

The attacker has been the subject of fierce transfer interest from Rangers in recent weeks, with Swansea turning down at least one bid for the 22-year-old from the Scottish Premiership outfit.

But Michael Beale's side have fallen way short of Swansea's valuation of Whittaker, and the club are now willing to give the versatile attacker the chance to impress with the club following his efforts in training.

"With Morgan, he's in the squad tomorrow," confirmed Martin. "We've had bids, we've rejected bids, they're quite a way from the club's valuation of Morgan.

"I think we need to draw a line under it. Morgan is in agreement. So he's in the squad tomorrow, we look forward to having him in the squad and we'll take it from there."

The Swans paid Derby County a fee in the region of £700,000 for the services of the versatile forward in January 2021, although he has been unable to become a first-team regular under the current coaching regime.

Following a loan spell with Lincoln City last season, Whittaker spent the first half of the 2022/23 campaign with Plymouth Argyle. The Englishman netted nine goals and registered seven assists for the League One leaders before being recalled by Swansea in early January.

An appearance against Neil Critchley's side on Saturday afternoon will end the possibility of Whittaker joining Rangers this month given that the youngster will have played for two clubs in a season.

Meanwhile, Martin confirmed there are no developments on the futures of Michael Obafemi and Jamie Paterson.

The club are open to offers for both players, with Burnley having multiple bids for Obafemi rejected this month while Coventry City have shown an interest in Paterson.

"Pato and Michael, it's pretty much the same situation as when I spoke to the guys on Tuesday night," added Martin. "We've had bids for Michael but they're short of the valuation we have for him. With Pato, there's lots of interest but no firm offers yet."
