Quiet Leeds street in shock after man found collapsed in road dies

Residents have been left shocked after police announced a man died on a road in Leeds this morning.

West Yorkshire Police said they were called out to Bodmin Crescent in Middleton at 4.56am, where a man was found unconscious. He was tragically pronounced dead just a short time later.

Officers have cordoned off the road and enquiries are in progress to determine the circumstances of the man's death.

A West Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: "At 4.56am today, police were contacted by the ambulance service who were attending a report of a man found unconscious in the street in Bodmin Crescent, Middleton.

"The man was pronounced dead at the scene a short time later. A scene remains in place and enquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances."

Pictures from the scene show four lines of police tape along the street, guarded by officers and police cars. A white tent has also been erected at the scene.

A resident, 65, told LeedsLive: “Well it’s just shocking isn’t it? We all just saw all that tape on the road this morning. It’s difficult to know what to say. I didn’t know the person myself but it is sad.”

Another resident, who lives at the house at the back of where the incident happened, was walking back from Sainsbury’s this morning and was “shocked” to see it happening.

“I didn’t realise anything had gone on until I came back home and then heard a man had collapsed and he’s now died," he said. Asked if he felt uneasy about living so close to the scene he added: “No, not really - it’s just one of those things isn’t it?”

Residents are currently having to access their houses by cutting across the grass to avoid disturbing the police scene.
