QMC and City Hospital parking charges announced as £1.2million camera system installed

Prices for parking at Nottingham University Hospitals have been released by the Trust. The charges were detailed in an announcement about a new ANPR (Automatic Number Plate Recognition) car parking system at the QMC and City Hospitals sites.

Changes to parking at Nottingham University Hospitals will take place from June 1 . The ANPR system at the car park entrance uses cameras that identify a vehicle’s registration number and then allows people to pay for the time used before leaving the car park.

£1.2m has been spent on the new ANPR barrier technology and will allow for a more flexible payment system, where visitors only pay for what they have used.

The system is being tested and will be continued to be tested for the first week of operation and staff will be on hand to support those who have any problems. Visitors may also be asked to show an appointment letter to ensure that only visitors and patients are using the car parks.

Director of Estates and Facilities, Andrew Chatten said: “Since the start of the pandemic our car parking barriers have been up and our car parks have been open to the public and our staff, free of charge, to allow people to easily access our hospitals.

“As we emerge from the pandemic our sites have become much busier and we need to regulate access into our car parks to ensure those who need to park can park. As such we will be ensuring that only patients and visitors can park in visitor car parks, and only staff with permits can park in staff car parks. We also have a number of excellent transport options including the Medilink service, Park and Ride options, tram and bus services which the public can consider. More information on travel to our hospitals can be found on our website”.

The parking charges announced are that is free to park for up to 30 minutes, £2 up to 1 hour, £4 up to 2 hours, £5.50 up to 4 hours, £6.50 up to 8 hours, £8 up to 24 hours, £20 weekly and £30 monthly. Disabled drivers (displaying a valid blue badge) and motorcycles can park for free. This means the cost of car parking has not increased.
