PSV Eindhoven director of football John de Jong has provided an update on the situation regarding young forward Cody Gakpo.
The 22-year-old has burst onto the scene in the Eredivisie in recent years, and has netted 10 goals and registered 11 assists in 28 games so far this season.
With the Gunners said to be interested in the Netherlands international, his progress has certainly not gone unnoticed, with Manchester City and Liverpool said to also be keen.
A product of the famous Boeren academy, Gakpo loves to cut in from the left flank and onto his preferred right foot.
With PSV ultimately, like many other Dutch sides, resigned to the fact that more attracting clubs will come knocking, de Jong has commented on the recent ongoing speculation.
“The interest started early in the season, when he performed well, also with the Dutch national team,'' de Jong told Voetbal Primeur.
“My goal is to keep him for the season at all times. I don’t know how long we can keep him out of the hands of the big clubs in Europe. How he performs is the most important thing.”
Under contract until June 2026, Gakpo would surely require a sizeable fee, but given the Gunners need for a new forward this summer, Arteta could look to the Dutch forward.
Eindhoven are currently chasing down league leaders Ajax in the table and they sit just two points behind their rivals with 14 games left to play.
