Minneapolis ICE shooting updates: Jonathan Ross named as agent who fatally shot woman as Walz preps National Guard for protests

Minnesota Governor Tim Walz is preparing the state’s National Guard after an Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent fatally shot 37-year-old Renee Nicole Good in Minneapolis.

Walz announced Thursday he is authorizing the Minnesota National Guard to be “staged and ready” as protesters gather in Minneapolis. This comes as reports indicate the ICE officer who shot Good has been identified as Jonathan Ross. Federal officials described Ross as “an experienced” officer, according to The Minnesota Star Tribune.

At a White House press briefing Thursday, Vice President JD Vance said Good “violated the law” and committed an act of “terrorism.”

“She was trying to ram this guy with her car,” Vance said. He added that her death was “a tragedy of her own making.”

Videos, taken by bystanders at the scene, do not support the allegation that Good was attempting to hit the agent, according to an analysis by The New York Times.

Good’s ex-husband, who asked not be be named, told the Associated Press that she had driven her young son to school shortly before she was shot in the head by the ICE agent.

Earlier Thursday, Walz slammed the Trump administration's decision to bar state officials from participating in the shooting investigation.

“I just want to make this clear for everyone: Minnesota must be part of this investigation,” Walz said after the U.S. Attorney’s Office, which operates under the Justice Department, decided that the Federal Bureau of Investigation would solely handle the probe.

WWE star and former Minnesota governor Jesse Ventura spotted at Minneapolis high school

23:48 , Katie Hawkinson

Jesse Ventura, a former WWE star who served as Minnesota’s governor from 1999 to 2003, was spotted Thursday at Roosevelt High School in Minneapolis, according to Fox 9 News.

Ventura’s visit follows a confrontation involving ICE near the school on Wednesday, Fox 9 News reports.

“Good for these people who stood up. They're teaching their students something, that we are a country, we have to be a country of law and a country of the Constitution,” Ventura told the outlet.

Footage showed ICE agents amid a crowd of people outside the school on Wednesday afternoon, Fox 9 News reports. The Minneapolis Federation of Educators said one of their members was detained during the incident and has since been released.

A Department of Homeland Security spokesperson told Fox 9 that agents were chasing an individual accused of impeding their activity earlier in the day. The chase ended near the school.

"While the subject was being removed from his vehicle, an individual who identified himself as a teacher proceeded to assault a border patrol agent. While this was happening, a crowd began to form and grow — rioters threw objects and dispersed paint on the officers and their vehicles,” the spokesperson said.

The Department of Homeland Security said on Thursday that it will not release the name of the ICE agent who shot and killed Renee Good in Minneapolis after several news outlets identified him as Jonathan Ross.

“We are not going to expose the name of this officer,” Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin told The Independent in a statement. “He acted according to his training.”

“This officer is a longtime ICE officer who has been serving his country his entire life,” she said, noting that he has more than a decade of experience working for ICE.

Three-time Trump voter joins Minneapolis protests

23:29 , Katie Hawkinson

A three-time voter for President Donald Trump has revealed he’s joining the anti-ICE protests in Minneapolis.

Cassius Pryce told MS NOW he is a “die-hard Trump supporter,” but is now “very disappointed” in the president.

“My message to Trump is, you know, let's go about it the right way. I know that we're trying to hit immigration and do the laws with that. Let's follow the laws, follow the Constitution, there's no rewriting that,” Price said.

He went on to push back against the Trump administration’s characterization of the incident. Federal officials have accused Good of “weaponizing her vehicle” and said the ICE officer, reportedly identified as Jonathan Ross, shot her in self-defense.

“Obviously, if you’ve seen the video, the lady, she did not try to hit Jonathan Ross. She was obviously afraid,” Price told MS Now.

Border Patrol Commander Gregory Bovino spotted in Minneapolis

23:14 , Katie Hawkinson

U.S. Border Patrol Commander Gregory Bovino was spotted near Roosevelt High School in Minneapolis Wednesday, as officials carried out an immigration-related operation in the area, according to NBC News.

Bovino led the Trump administration’s mass deportation operation in Illinois last year.

Bovino and his officers then faced allegations that they violently detained demonstrators and indiscriminately fired tear gas into Chicago neighborhoods around Halloween.

“Those kids were tear-gassed on their way to celebrate Halloween in their local school parking lot,” Illinois District Judge Sara Ellis said at the time.

“These kids, you can imagine, their sense of safety was shattered ... and it’s gonna take a long time for that to come back, if ever,” she added.

Meanwhile, Homeland Security officials argued that “rioters” had “surrounded” and “attacked” agents in the Chicago area.

Minnesota officials are 'exploring all options' to ensure their involvement in ICE shooting probe

21:30 , Brendan Rascius

Officials in Minnesota are “exploring all options” to ensure their involvement in the investigation into the fatal shooting of Renee Good in Minneapolis yesterday.

"After the FBI rescinded its cooperation agreement with the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, our office immediately began exploring all options to ensure a state level investigation can continue,” Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty said in a statement on Thursday afternoon.

“If the FBI is the sole investigative agency, the State will not receive the investigative findings, and our community may never learn about its contents,” Moriarty said.

“We are speaking to our local partners on paths forward that will allow us to review the investigation and be transparent in our decision making,” she added.

ICE agent who shot Good was 'dragged' by car during enforcement operation last year, report says

21:07 , Brendan Rascius

Jonathan Ross, the ICE agent who fatally shot Renee Good on Wednesday, was dragged by a vehicle and injured during an immigration enforcement operation last year, according to a new report.

In June, Ross attempted to detain Roberto Carlos Munoz-Guatemala, a Mexican man with a criminal record, while he was driving in Bloomington, The Minnesota Star Tribune reported on Thursday.

When Munoz-Guatemala didn’t comply with orders from agents, Ross broke the car’s rear window and tried to unlock the door. Munoz-Guatemala then accelerated, dragging Ross roughly 300 feet before he was “knocked” from the car.

As a result of the incident, Ross needed 20 stitches on his arm and 13 more on his hand, according to court documents seen by the outlet. Munoz-Guatemala was later convicted of assaulting an officer.

Without naming Ross, Vice President JD Vance mentioned in a press conference on Thursday that the agent who killed Good had previously been assaulted.

“Tim Walz is a joke,” Vance said during a White House press conference on Thursday.

A reporter also asked him why the federal government blocked Minnesota state officials from participating in the investigation into the shooting.

Vance said that, if state officials took part in the probe, they would make the ICE agent’s life “miserable.” He added that Minnesota officials should instead focus on tackling left-wing violence.

Attorney General Pam Bondi warns protestors not to cross a 'red line'

20:35 , Brendan Rascius

Attorney General Pam Bondi warned protestors not to cross a “red line,” following the killing of Renee Good in Minneapolis on Wednesday.

“Peacefully protesting is a sacred American right protected by the First Amendment,” Bondi wrote on X on Thursday.

BREAKING NEWS: ICE agent who fatally shot woman in Minnesota is identified

20:17 , Louise Boyle

The Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent who fatally shot a 37-year-old woman in Minneapolis has been identified as Jonathan Ross, an officer who was dragged and injured by a fleeing driver in a separate incident last year, according to reports.

Court documents obtained by Newsweek identified the agent involved in Wednesday’s fatal shooting as Ross, who was also involved in the June 2025 apprehension of Roberto Carlos Munoz-Guatemala, a convicted sex offender, in Bloomington, Minnesota.

Federal officials have described Ross as “an experienced” officer, The Minnesota Star Tribune reported.

During the June operation, Ross’s arm became stuck in the window of a suspect’s vehicle, and he was dragged roughly 100 yards down the street. At the time, Ross fired his Taser and hit the driver, but failed to stop the vehicle.

19:25 , Brendan Rascius

Vice President JD Vance said that Renee Nicole Good, the 37-year-old woman killed by an ICE agent in Minneapolis yesterday, “violated the law” and committed an act of “terrorism.”

During a press conference on Thursday afternoon, Vance expressed outrage at members of the media for their reporting on the deadly incident.

“You people in the media…have been lying about this attack,” the Republican vice president said. “She was trying to ram this guy with her car…he shot back, he defended himself.”

“This is classic terrorism,” he said. “The idea that this was not justified is absurd.”

Video footage of the incident contradicts Vance’s description of the events. An analysis of footage by The New York Times concluded that the ICE agent was not rammed or about to be rammed, and that he fired several shots while standing next to the vehicle.

Tim Walz demands that state officials participate in investigation into ICE shooting

18:14 , Brendan Rascius

Minnesota Governor Tim Walz slammed the federal government’s decision to bar state officials from participating in the investigation into the fatal shooting of Renee Nicole Good by an ICE agent in Minneapolis yesterday.

“I just want to make this clear for everyone: Minnesota must be part of this investigation,” Walz said on Thursday after the U.S. Attorney’s Office decided that the FBI would solely handle the probe.

Without state involvement, Walz said Minnesotans will distrust the investigation's findings.

“It feels very, very difficult that we will get a fair outcome,” the governor, a Democrat, said during an afternoon press conference. “And I say that only because people in positions of power have already passed judgement, from the president to the vice president to Kristi Noem have stood and told you things that are verifiably false.”

“The only way we find answers is a thorough investigation by non-partisan professionals,” he said.

Walz added that he himself has yet to make a determination on what exactly happened.

“I don’t have a predetermined notion,” he said. “Yes, I saw the video…but a thorough investigation will see what happened before that. It will take all factors in.”

Senator Thom Tillis, a North Carolina Republican, said he put a hold on Department of Homeland Security nominees ahead of yesterday’s fatal shooting by an ICE agent in Minneapolis.

“I’d simply like the Homeland Security Secretary to respond to what are now two requests by the chairman to come before the committee, and that's the reason why I placed the blanket hold before the shooting yesterday on anything related to Homeland Security until such time as she does that,” Tillis said on Thursday, according to Semafor.

17:45 , Brendan Rascius

“The officer was hit by the vehicle,” Noem said during a press conference on Thursday. “She hit him. He went to the hospital. A doctor did treat him. He has been released, but he’s gonna spend some time with his family.”

Her comments come after President Trump claimed in a post on Truth Social that Good “viciously ran over the ICE Officer,” adding, “it is hard to believe he is alive.”

However, bystander footage from the scene contradicts the administration’s account. A multi-angle analysis by The New York Times found that the agent was neither run over nor in danger of being struck.

He fired several shots at Good while standing next to her vehicle.

The FBI will now be entirely responsible for the investigation into the killing of Good, a 37-year-old mother, by an ICE agent in Minneapolis yesterday.

The BCA was informed that it "would no longer have access to the case materials, scene evidence or investigative interviews necessary to complete a thorough and independent investigation,"according to The Associated Press.

“It does seem like you guys are not angling for a fight on ICE,” another reporter said. “Is that fair to say?”

Schumer didn’t comment.

When he was asked similar questions, Jeffries said he is focused on “extending the Affordable Care Act tax credits.”

New York Times video analysis challenges Trump administration's narrative of ICE shooting

16:40 , Brendan Rascius

An analysis of bystander footage from yesterday’s ICE shooting in Minneapolis challenges the Trump administration’s assertion that the agent acted in self-defense while being run over.

The analysis, which included multiple angles of the incident, “appears to show the victim was not in the path of the SUV when [the agent] fired three shots at close range,” The New York Times reported on Thursday.

“The moment the agent fires, he is standing…to the left of the SUV, and the wheels are pointing to the right, away from the agent,” the outlet continued.

The Times stated that the agent was not run over or about to be run over.

“The governor and the mayor both said they want ICE out of Minneapolis,” ICE Acting Director Todd Lyons told Fox News on Thursday. “ICE has been there for decades.”

“We’re going to be across the nation just doing our regular law enforcement mission,” he continued. “You will see surge-ups in locations where we do have those high concentrations of criminal illegal aliens that were released back into cities and neighborhoods by sanctuary jurisdictions.”

“Our hearts and prayers go out to everyone involved in this situation, but at the end of the day, what keeps me up is the safety of the men and women of ICE,” he said.

Minneapolis police chief said a handgun is not 'effective at stopping' a vehicle

16:05 , Brendan Rascius

Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara said said that a handgun is not useful for stopping a vehicle, following yesterday’s shooting of Renee Nicole Good by an ICE agent.

“The reality is firing a handgun at someone driving a car is not particularly effective at stopping the vehicle,” O’Hara told CNN on Thursday.

He added that tensions had been mounting for weeks leading up to the fatal incident.

“I have very publicly been saying that I have been concerned, both number one, that a tragedy would occur — that either a federal law enforcement officer or a civilian member of the community would get seriously hurt or killed — and also that such heightened tensions and so many emotions around these issues could lead to civil unrest, which is something that our city was, the center of truly the worst and most destructive civil unrest in our country’s history five years ago,” O’Hara said.

Lawmakers’ reactions to ICE shooting highlight deep partisan rift

15:35 , Brendan Rascius

In the aftermath of the fatal ICE shooting of 37-year-old Renee Nicole Good in Minneapolis yesterday, reactions from lawmakers were sharply divided.

Democrats denounced ICE, accused the officer of acting recklessly and pushed back against the administration’s claims that the officer’s life was in danger.

“This was not self-defense,” Rep. Maxine Dexter, an Oregon Democrat, wrote on X this morning. “This was murder.”

“ICE’s actions today were unconscionable and reprehensible,” Rep. Ilhan Omar, a Minnesota Democrat, wrote on X last night. “I am beyond outraged that their reckless, callous actions led to the killing of a legal observer in Minneapolis. My heart breaks for the victim’s family, who will have to forever live with the pain caused by the Trump Administration's reckless and deadly actions.”

Meanwhile, Republicans argued that Good had attempted to ram the officer with her car, with some accusing her of engaging in terrorism.

“This was a clear act of domestic terrorism,” Rep. Nancy Mace, a South Carolina Republican, wrote on X this morning. “A vehicle was used as a weapon against federal officers. After years of demonizing cops, Democrats now own the consequences.”

“Good morning. Don't try and run over any ICE agents today,” Rep Mike Collins, a Georgia Republican, wrote in a post.

State and local officials have demanded ICE leave Minneapolis after an officer shot and killed a woman during an immigration operation Wednesday.

But Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem said agents aren’t going anywhere and has insisted the woman, 37-year-old Renee Nicole Macklin Good, was committing an “act of domestic terrorism” when she was shot.

Local officials have rejected the Trump administration's explanation that it was self-defense.

Here is a look at the potential legal repercussions.

JD Vance says ICE agent acted in self defense

14:00 , Brendan Rascius

Vice President JD Vance called the ICE shooting of Renee Nicole Good an act of self-defense, stating that she tried to strike the agent with her car.

“The gaslighting is off the charts and I'm having none of it,” Vance wrote in a post on X this morning. “This guy was doing his job. She tried to stop him from doing his job. When he approached her car, she tried to hit him.”

He said that Good, a 37-year-old mother of three, had her car “pointed” at the agent and that she “clearly” hit him while accelerating.

“A tragedy? Absolutely,” he added. “But a tragedy that falls on this woman and all of the radicals who teach people that immigration is the one type of law that rioters are allowed to interfere with.”

Video footage of the incident seems to contradict Vance’s account. It does not appear to show Good’s car striking the agent, who fired multiple shots while standing beside the vehicle.

Good's alma mater says it is mourning 'the loss of one of our own'

13:50 , Brendan Rascius

Renee Nicole Good’s alma mater expressed sorrow over the loss of its former student.

“It is with great sadness that Old Dominion University mourns the loss of one of our own, Renee (Macklin) Good, a proud Monarch who graduated in December of 2020 from the College of Arts and Letters with a degree in English,” University President Brian Hemphill said in a statement.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with her family, friends, loved ones, and the Monarch Nation,” he said.

“This is yet another clear example that fear and violence have sadly become commonplace in our nation,” the head of the university, located in Virrginia, said. “Indeed, this tragedy reflects the deep strain being felt in countless communities across our nation. As citizens, it is our duty and right to call upon leaders and officials to restore civility in all facets of our lives, especially at the hands of those who are entrusted to protect and serve.”

“My hope is for compassion, healing, and reflection at a time that is becoming one of the darkest and most uncertain periods in our nation’s history,” Hemphill said.

She said it was “so stupid” that Good was killed, adding, “she was probably terrified.”

Ganger said her daughter was not attempting to disrupt immigration enforcement — as Trump administration officials have claimed.

“What they are doing is not to provide safety in America. What they are doing is causing chaos and distrust,” he said, calling on the agents to leave.

“They’re ripping families apart. They’re sowing chaos on our streets, and in this case, quite literally killing people.”

He also had strong words for Noem, dismissing her justification for Good’s shooting as “bulls***” and a “garbage narrative.”

The late-night host again attacked the president in his opening monologue last night, this time over Trump’s response to the ICE shooting in Minneapolis, calling him a “maniac.”

“Now, I saw this video,” Kimmel said of the incident. “It didn’t look like anybody got run over to me. It looked to me like a woman got scared, tried to drive away, and they shot her.

“That’ll be for the court to decide. The mayor of Minneapolis, though, had this to say...” he said, before cutting to footage of Jacob Frey’s furious response to yesterday’s tragedy, in which he told ICE to, “Get the f*** out of Minneapolis.”

Kimmel went on to hold up a T-shirt bearing Frey’s words as a slogan, a call back to a joke from earlier in the monologue when he had held up another shirt mocking South Carolina Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham by repeating his threat to the Ayatollah of Iran: “Donald J Trump is gonna kill you.”

Policies at the Department of Homeland Security prohibit ICE agents from discharging firearms to stop a moving vehicle, unless the victim is “threatening deadly force.”

However, a strict caveat in the rule requires agents to only open fire if “no other objectively reasonable means of defense is available.”

Here’s more from Owen Scott.

Noem facing impeachment threat over ICE shooting

10:40 , Joe Sommerlad

Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem claimed yesterday during an appearance in Texas that Renee Good had attempted to ram her ICE agents in Minneapolis, leaving the officer responsible with no choice but to fire on her in self-defense, calling the deceased’s actions an act of “domestic terrorism.”

Illinois Democratic Rep. Robin Kelly has since said she plans to bring an impeachment resolution against Noem, calling her “an incompetent leader and a disgrace to our democracy.”

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries meanwhile called the secretary “a stone-cold liar who has zero credibility.”

Trump’s claim that officer was injured in shooting contradicted

10:20 , Joe Sommerlad

The president took to Truth Social yesterday and said of the deadly incident in Minneapolis: “The woman screaming was, obviously, a professional agitator, and the woman driving the car was very disorderly, obstructing and resisting, who then violently, willfully, and viciously ran over the ICE Officer, who seems to have shot her in self defense.”

He added: “Based on the attached clip, it is hard to believe he is alive, but is now recovering in the hospital.”

However, Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara told CNN last night that no one else had been hurt other than the victim.

Renee Good’s family say she was ‘murdered’ by ICE

Good was reportedly previously married to Timmy Ray Macklin Jr, who passed away in 2023 aged just 36.

She subsequently married a woman named Becca Good, hence the aforementioned name change application in Kansas.

Speaking to The Daily Telegraph, her former father-in-law, Timmy Ray Macklin Sr, said he was in no doubt that her death was murder.

“It is horrible, it’s murder,” Macklin Sr said. “Everybody is terribly shocked right now. She was a good, outgoing person. I didn’t agree with a lot of her ways, but it’s really sad to see these things happen.”

Macklin Sr said that Renee had a child with his late son and added: “My main concern right now is getting my grandchild.”

Earlier Wednesday, Homan posted on X that the shooting “is yet another tragic example of the results of the hateful rhetoric and violent attacks against the men and women of ICE and BP.”

“These brave men and women are forced to conduct law enforcement operations in heightened threat environments every day. Like all Americans, our officers have a right to self defense,” he wrote.

National Guard could be deployed as anger mount

07:39 , Shweta Sharma

Gov. Tim Walz said he was prepared to deploy the National Guard if necessary.

He expressed outrage over the shooting but called on people to keep protests peaceful.

He said the warning order to the national guard gives members a "heads up that something could be coming.”

"And these national guard troops are our national guard troops," Walz said. "They're teachers in your community, they're business owners, they're construction professionals. They are Minnesotans."

Walz added that his administration is "going to stop at nothing to seek accountability and justice" after the fatal shooting.

The state's Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is investigating.

"To Minnesotans I say this: I feel your anger. I'm angry," Walz said.

"They want a show. We can't give it to them. We cannot. If you protest and express your First Amendment rights, please do so peacefully as you always do. We can't give them what they want."

There were calls on social media to prosecute the officer who shot Renee Nicole Good.

ICYMI: Kristi Noem defends ICE agent who fatally shot Minneapolis woman

07:25 , Shweta Sharma

Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem defended the ICE agent who fatally shot a woman in Minneapolis, claiming he “used his training” in the incident.

“It’s clearly established law that a vehicle driven by a person and used to harm someone is a deadly weapon,” Noem said at a Wednesday evening press conference.

“Deadly force is perfectly lawful when a threat is faced by a weapon. So I do believe that this officer used his training in this situation and will let the FBI continue the investigation to get it resolved,” she added.

Family say Renee Nicole Good was murdered by ICE

07:11 , Shweta Sharma

The family of Renee Nicole Good has said she was “murdered” after she was shot and killed by an immigration agent in Minneapolis.

The 37-year-old woman was shot dead by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents during an operation in the Minnesota city on Wednesday.

Good, a poet and mother of three, had previously been married to Timmy Ray Macklin Jr, who died in 2023 at the age of 36.

At the time of her death, she was married to a woman named Becca Good.

Speaking to The Telegraph, her former father-in-law, Timmy Ray Macklin Sr, said he believed she had been “murdered” by ICE agents.

“It is horrible – it’s murder. Everybody is terribly shocked right now,” he said. “She was a good, outgoing person. I didn’t agree with a lot of her ways, but it’s really sad to see these things happen.”

Good and her former husband had a six-year-old child, whom she would bring to visit his grandparents “a couple of times a year”, he said.

“My main concern right now is getting my grandchild,” he added.

Her mother, Donna Ganger, described Good as “an amazing human being” and “one of the kindest people I’ve ever known” in a tribute published by the Minnesota Star Tribune.

She said Good had been living in Minnesota with her partner.

“She was extremely compassionate. She took care of people all her life. She was loving, forgiving and affectionate,” Ganger said.

DHS Secretary Kristi Noem said the woman ignored repeated orders to exit her vehicle and attempted to run over an Immigration and Customs Enforcement officer, describing the incident as an effort “to kill or cause bodily harm to agents.”

Why is ICE in Minneapolis?

05:50 , Shweta Sharma

The Trump administration deployed an additional 2,000 federal agents to the Minneapolis area in recent weeks in response to allegations of welfare fraud in the state.

Speaking at a Wednesday press conference, Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey said the ICE deployment was not making the city safer.

“They’re ripping families apart, they’re sowing chaos in our streets,” he said.

The deployment, which began on Sunday, is among the largest concentrations of Department of Homeland Security personnel in a U.S. city in recent years.

It follows an immigration enforcement campaign launched by ICE late last year targeting individuals with deportation orders in Minneapolis, including members of the city’s Somali community.

The Somali community has frequently been criticised by President Trump, who has called them “garbage” and said: “I don’t want them in our country. I’ll be honest with you. Their country’s no good for a reason. Their country stinks.”

Trump later doubled down on his remarks following a YouTube video by a conservative content creator alleging mass fraud at daycare centres run by Somali immigrants.

In response, the administration has withheld federal childcare funds from Minnesota.

ICE agents have also been deployed to other cities across the U.S., making thousands of arrests as part of what the administration describes as a crackdown on crime and undocumented immigrants.

Sen. Amy Klobuchar speaks out on fatal shooting by ICE agents

05:38 , Shweta Sharma

Minnesota Sen. Amy Klobuchar reacted to the fatal shooting of Renee Good by ICE agents in Minneapolis on Wednesday, calling for full transparency.

"I am praying for the family and loved ones of the woman who was shot and killed by an ICE agent in Minneapolis this morning. This tragedy is the result of the administration sending federal agents onto our streets against the wishes of local law enforcement, including our respected Police Chief Brian O'Hara,” she wrote.

“We need full transparency and an investigation of what happened, and I am deeply concerned that statements made by DHS do not appear to reflect video evidence and on-the-ground accounts.

“While our immigration enforcement should be focused on apprehending and prosecuting violent criminals to make our communities safer, these ICE actions are doing the opposite and making our state less safe."

Driver shot in Minneapolis is at least the fifth person killed in US immigration crackdown

05:21 , Shweta Sharma

The fatal shooting of a woman by ICE agents in Minneapolis is at least the fifth death in the wake of the Trump administration’s aggressive U.S. immigration crackdown.

The Department of Homeland Security said the officer fired in self-defense as 37-year-old Renee Nicole Macklin Good tried to run down officers with her vehicle.

Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey said video of the incident showed it was reckless and unnecessary.

Last September, Immigration and Customs Enforcement fatally shot another person outside Chicago.

Two people have died after being struck by vehicles while fleeing immigration authorities. And a California farmworker fell from a greenhouse and broke his neck during an ICE raid last July.

No officers or agents have been charged in the deaths. Those killed so far are:

1. Silverio Villegas González, 38 – Line cook from Mexico; fatally shot during a traffic stop in suburban Chicago on 12 September.

2. Jaime Alanis, 57 – Farmworker from Mexico; fell from a greenhouse roof during an ICE raid in Camarillo, California, on 10 July.

3. Roberto Carlos Montoya Valdez, 52 – From Guatemala; struck by an SUV while running across a California freeway on 14 August.

4. Josué Castro Rivera, 24 – Gardener from Honduras; struck by a pickup truck on Interstate 264 in Norfolk, Virginia, on 23 October while fleeing a traffic stop.

What has Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey said about the shooting?

Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey has criticized federal law enforcement agents after an ICE officer fatally shot 37-year-old Renee Nicole Good on Wednesday morning.

Shortly after the shooting, Frey called on ICE to “get the f*** out” of Minneapolis.

Frey then pushed back after Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem described Good’s actions as “an act of domestic terrorism.”

“The notion that this is domestic terrorism on the form of the victim, yeah, it's positively ridiculous,” Frey told CNN’s Anderson Cooper.

Frey also responded to criticism over his call for ICE to “get the f*** out” of Minneapolis.

“I'm so sorry if I offended their Disney princess ears. But here's the thing: if we're talking about what's inflammatory, on the one hand, you’ve got someone who dropped an F bomb, and on the other hand, you’ve got someone who killed somebody else. F bomb, killing somebody. I think the more inflammatory action is killing somebody,” Frey told CNN’s Kaitlan Collins.

Just minutes later, Vance shared another post voicing the Trump administration’s support for ICE agents.
