Luke O'Neill, Professor of Biochemistry at the school of Immunology at Trinity College Dublin, has said that new research shows that long Covid may be caused by "ghosts" of the virus lingering within the body.
Speaking from a conference in Philadelphia to Newstalk's Pat Kenny, Prof O'Neil explained how the new study found remnants of the virus in the digestive tract of long Covid patients.
He said: "I'd say half the speakers at the conference here in Philadelphia are talking about long Covid because that remains a big concern, as you know, and the incidence of that are quite high, especially in the US because if you're unvaccinated, you've a higher risk of long Covid as well.
