Prince Andrew 'slept with teddy bears in bed during Fergie marriage' author claims

Prince Andrew slept with multiple teddy bears in his bed even during his marriage to Sarah Ferguson, a royal biographer has revealed.

The Duke of York was married to Fergie for 10 years - and during that time still slept with "around a dozen teddy bears" on his bed, royal expert Ingrid Seward claimed.

She recalled noticing the toys while visiting Fergie at Buckingham Palace in 1990 to assist with the biography she was writing.

The revelation comes after former Palace maid Charlotte Briggs revealed how she had to spend a whole day learning how the Duke liked the soft toys displayed on his bed during the 90s.

Andrew and Fergie were married from 1986 to 1996, and share daughters Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie together.

Remembering the teddies during her visit, Ingrid said she assumed they belonged to the Duchess, and were from her childhood.

She told The Sun : "I said to her, ‘Oh Fergie, you haven’t still got your old teddies have you?

"And she said, ‘No they are all Andrew’s’. We found it very funny and fell about laughing.”

Former Palace maid Charlotte worked for the Royal Family in the mid-90s, and claimed staff were given a diagram on how to place Andrew's 72 cuddly toys around his room.

She said: “As soon as I got the job, I was told about the teddies and it was drilled into me how he wanted them.

“I even had a day’s training. Everything had to be just right. It was so peculiar.”

She added: “But he absolutely loved the teddies and was very clear about how he wanted them arranged.”

Charlotte, who was 21 at the time, said the biggest teddies were put at the back and the rest were in descending order of size to the smallest at the front.

She claimed the Prince's two favourite teddies were placed on mahogany thrones at his bedside.

She further added that the vast majority of teddies were dressed as sailors, in uniforms and caps, and came from all over the world.

Charlotte even claimed Andrew frequently lost his temper with the staff, especially if it involved his cuddly toys.

She added: "It took me half an hour to arrange them — most bizarre thing to be paid for."

Andrew lives with ex-wife Fergie at the Royal Lodge in Windsor, but a suite of rooms was kept for him at the Palace for overnight stays.

It is understood his Palace bedroom has been packed up and his teddy collection has been scaled back.
