Premiership manager flattered by 'amazing' public support amid Scotland links

Falkirk boss John McGlynn has had no contact from the Scottish Football Association about the vacant national team manager’s job but is flattered by being linked to the post.

The game’s ruling body are looking for a new Scotland boss after Steve Clarke left the role following the 2026 World Cup in North America, where the Scots again failed to get out of their group.

McGlynn guided the Bairns to successive promotions before finishing sixth on their return to the William Hill Premiership last season, and several high-profile names such as former Scotland manager Craig Levein and former Scotland assistant Ally McCoist have been supportive of the 64-year-old’s credentials.

McGlynn told Sky Sports Scotland: “It’s amazing for high-profile people in the game to be pushing my name for that job. I am obviously totally committed here (Falkirk), I have had no contact whatsoever.

“So I’m very focused on the job, but it is very nice for the people that have put me forward and supporting me in that way. They know what I’m like and how well we’ve kind of done, so it’s some kind of recognition, and it’s nice to hear it, but I’m getting on with the job in hand right now.”

Asked if he would be interested in the job if there was to be any contact from the SFA, the former Raith Rovers, Hearts and Livingston boss said: “Obviously, the SFA would need to go through the proper procedures and speak to the club and see how it goes, if it comes to that.

“As I say, I’m just focused on what I’m doing right now.”
