Premier League news as Burnley eye former Swansea City boss and Conte discusses Eriksen reunion

Here are the latest Premier League headlines on Thursday, 21 April 2022.

Burnley manager search

Burnley have reportedly made former Sheffield Wednesday and Swansea City manager Carlos Carvalhal as a potential target to replace Sean Dyche, according to Football Insider. Carvalhal is currently in charge of Portuguese side FC Braga, where he has won 55 of his 100 games in charge.

The Clarets have currently placed U23s manager Mike Jackson in temporary charge alongside club captain Ben Mee, who is out injured at the moment. It is yet unclear as to whether Burnley will look to appoint someone permanently now, or wait until the end of the season.

Conte on Eriksen

Tottenham Hotspur manager Antonio Conte has spoken of his joy at seeing Christian Eriksen back playing football again. Conte is set to come up against Eriksen this weekend as his Spurs side make the trip to Brentford.

Conte was in charge of Eriksen during his time at Inter Milan, where the two won the Serie A title together last season. Speaking in his pre-match press conference, the Italian described his comeback as ‘incredible’.

He said: “First of all I’m very happy to see him play football again, because don’t forget in June it was terrible, the images were terrible for everybody. We suffered a lot for him, for his family. I had the opportunity to see him when he had just arrived in Brentford, I had the opportunity to speak with him and his family.

“We’re talking about not only an important player but especially a great person, a great man. I wish him and his family the best for the present and the future. To see him again, to meet him on Saturday for a game it will be a pleasure for me.

“It’s incredible because not many times this happens what happens and to see him again play football makes me very happy, because I know that football is life. To have this opportunity is great for him and his family because now they come back to have a normal life.”

Nketiah hope

Arsenal still reportedly remain confident that they can persuade Eddie Nketiah to sign a new deal with the club, according to the Daily Mail. Nketiah is out of contract in the summer and has so far turned down all of the Gunners’ approaches of extending his stay at the club.

The 22-year-old has publicly stated he is in need of more regular game time at this stage of his career. He has, though, started the last two Premier League matches, scoring twice in a 4-2 win over Chelsea on Wednesday night.
