Prada built its spring/summer 2027 womenswear collection around one garment: the skirt. Presented Sept. 22 at Fondazione Prada in Milan, the collection gave Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons a shared starting point for experiments in fabric, decoration and proportion. The house's official runway gallery lists 63 looks. With trousers and dresses absent, skirts carried the collection's visual variety, moving between sheer layers, pleats, floral prints and elaborate embellishment.
"The skirt as object," began Prada's official show notes, which described the garment as a framework for exploring different ideas within a familiar shape. Some of the strongest details combined decoration with practical construction. Velcro became a surface for crystal embroidery while allowing the wearer to adjust the garment. Oversized metal snap fasteners received jeweled treatments, and crinoline, usually concealed inside clothing, appeared as an exposed layer.

Materials also challenged first impressions. According to the house, cotton was treated to resemble leather or suede, while industrial fabrics, including Re-Nylon, were pleated. Crystal constructions recreated the appearance of lace. Those treatments gave the collection range without abandoning its central premise. A familiar silhouette could become delicate, utilitarian or ornate depending on its surface and construction.
The styling left room for those differences to register. The Associated Press described an opening group of skirts paired with black tops, directing attention toward adjustable slits, pleats and layered fabrics. Bralettes, bandeaus and bustiers appeared throughout the collection. Some bandeaus connected to arm bands, while bustiers were worn open over knitwear. Shirts, sweaters and outerwear offered other ways to change the balance of an outfit.

The approach reflected the designers' interest in how people put clothes together. Simons told the AP that an older interview, in which Prada compared the skirt's role in her wardrobe to a man's T-shirt, helped inspire the decision to focus entirely on the garment.
Footwear added another point of contrast. The AP noted silk slingbacks and perforated leather pumps, while Who What Wear highlighted curved heels that recalled Prada's earlier banana-heel designs.
Guests included Uma Thurman, Maya Hawke, Michelle Williams and Sadie Sink, according to Who What Wear. For all the attention around the front row, the collection's proposition remained grounded in getting dressed. Changing a sweater for a bra top, or adding a coat, could give the same skirt a different character. Prada used that everyday possibility as the basis for an entire runway collection.
