Portland College in Mansfield releases statement after it was forced to close to pupils

A college in Mansfield has issued a statement after it was forced to close.

Portland College, in Nottingham Road, shut its doors to students on Wednesday, February 2, due to "essential work" needing to take place.

It was to allow maintenance to be carried out to repair a mains water leak.

In a statement ahead of the work, it said: "Portland College in Mansfield will be closed tomorrow (February 2) to enable essential maintenance to be carried out to repair a mains water leak.

"We expect to open as normal on Thursday. Further updates will be provided on our website."

Following the work the college, which has around 270 pupils, said it was able to reopen as normal.

"Please note the water mains leak has now been fixed and Portland College will be fully open as normal from February 3," it said in a follow-up statement.
