Police have uncovered a £1million cannabis farm after being called to a flat fire in Fife. The blaze took hold above a derelict convenience store on High Street in Cowdenbeath shortly after 9.30am on Tuesday, September 27.
Emergency services were called to the second-storey fire where they discovered a "significant" cannabis factory inside.
The fire was extinguished and no one was hurt. The drugs haul was seized and removed by detectives, who estimated it's street value at over a whopping £1million.
Dramatic images taken at the time showed bright orange flames spewing from the upstairs window as the inferno raged on, while footage captured firefighters initially trying to break into a local convenience store as thick, black smoke wafted into the sky above.
Pictures of the aftermath also showed the burnt out property standing charred and windowless as fire engines remained on scene and a cordon was erected while recovery took place and the probe began.
Cops now want to hear from anyone with any information on the event, especially those who may have spotted people in and around the property in the weeks prior.
Detective Inspector Kieran Marsh, of West Fife CID, said: “Officers continue to carry out extensive enquiries into both the fire and the cannabis cultivation discovered within the property.
“I am appealing to anyone who may have any information about this incident to come forward. I am also particularly keen to speak to anyone who may have seen people in and around the affected properties in the weeks leading up to the incident.
“Anyone with information is urged to contact Police Scotland via 101, quoting incident number 0753 of 27 September, 2022. Alternatively, contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111, where anonymity can be maintained.”
