America's Poison Centers logged 862 exposures to retatrutide in the three months ending in September, up from 460 in the prior three months and 249 in the first three months of 2026, CBS News reported. The FDA has also received two reports of people who died after taking products sold as retatrutide, an experimental Eli Lilly obesity drug that no regulator has approved.
Whether the drug caused either death has not been established. The reports were filed through the FDA's Adverse Event Reporting System, and the agency declined to say whether it had verified them. CBS said it could not independently verify the reports either. Still, the figures raise a pressing question for adults buying injectable "peptides" online, often through wellness sites, med spas, or social media links, without a prescription or medical oversight.
