'Players are not stupid' - Pep Guardiola sends blunt Man City 'complacency' message to Liverpool

Pep Guardiola has praised Liverpool for preventing his Manchester City team from suffering from 'complacency'.

The Reds are locked in a battle for the Premier League title with Man City, as the race goes to the final match of the season. Liverpool trail the leaders by one point as they host Wolves at Anfield, while City take on Aston Villa at home.

It will be the third time in four seasons that Liverpool and Man City will occupy the top two places in the league table. Should the Reds claim the title, it will be the second under Jurgen Klopp - while City are going for their fourth title in five seasons.

Speaking ahead of the final weekend of the league season, Guardiola has praised Liverpool for pushing his Man City team to achieve success. The Spaniard then added that he thinks the feelings will be mutual among the Reds camp.

“We would not have achieved what we have achieved without them,” Guardiola told Sky Sports.

“We have an opponent that brings you through the limits, otherwise complacency will arrive.

“The players are not stupid, we don’t need to tell them how good they (Liverpool) are. They play against them or they see it on TV, and I said ‘wow, if we want to be there we have to do it’.

“I think it’s quite similar that they (Liverpool) should think about us.”
