PIO cites RTI exemption clauses for security, judges safety; refuses Bombay HC building structural audit info to activist

MUMBAI: The Public information officer (PIO) of the Bombay high court expressed his inability to furnish information on structural audits of the court premises, as sought by Zoru (PIO) informed Zoru Bhathena, a tree activist. The reply said the information sought is exempted from disclosure under the RTI Act for security purposes, no larger public interest is demonstrated in the plea and also that its disclosure would “endanger the life or physical safety of the Judges and officials of the Bombay High Court."

Bhathena on October 10 sought information under the Right to Information (RTI) Act of the "structural audit of the Bombay high court building, both the main—historic heritage premises and of the 'Annex buildings" built much later. The one-page application displayed no reasons.
