Sam Smith’s unusual latex, balloon-like style statement at BRIT Awards caught the attention of the world on Saturday night.
Stepping out, the Dancing with a Stranger singer wore a latex outfit which featured a rather high neck, sleeves and legs which appeared to be overinflated and a zip going up the front of his all-in-one look.
The star opted to rock a pair of heeled boots and a pair of tiny earrings as they posed for photographs on the red carpet before making their way into the main arena area.
The 30-year-old has since caught the eye of one of their most outspoken critics, Piers Morgan.
The journalist-turned-telly-personality has accused Sam of being “over-thirsty for attention” in a savage outburst aimed at the singer.
The 57-year-old took a swipe at the singer’s outfit choice as he shared his views on the look with his 8.3million Twitter followers.
Posting a snap of Sam on the red carpet in the curious look, Piers wrote: “Methinks ‘they’ is getting a teeny weeny bit over-thirsty for attention #BRITs.”
The harsh comment caught the attention of other social media users who took the opportunity to call out Piers.
Some denounced Piers’ remark as he used quotation marks around Sam’s pronoun, accusing him of trying to “to take someone’s identity away”.
A Twitter user typed: “Methinks putting they in quotes is a disgusting attempt to take someone’s identity away.
“They are a pop star, almost every pop star dresses more extravagantly.
“You wouldn’t complain about a cis person doing it, so why is a non binary person unworthy of respect to you?” [sic]
Others agreed with the former Good Morning Britain presenter, with one writing: “What a ghastly outfit.”
Another argue: “It’s just pop @piersmorgan - it’s supposed to be fun, stupid and outrageous.”
Sam has faced criticism in recent weeks for their fashion choices but they appeared to want all eyes on them on Saturday night.
The hitmaker was nominated for two awards this year, one nomination for Best Pop/R&B Act and a second for Song Of The Year for their hit Unholy featuring Kim Petras.
Both Sam and Kim took to the stage to perform Unholy, just six days after delivering a killer performance at the Grammy's.
However, some didn't enjoy the performance with a string of odd complaints being filed in the days after the glamourous event held at the Crypto.com arena in Downtown Los Angeles.
TMZ reported that they have obtained 18 complaints filed with the Federal Communications Commission following the event.
Some complaints compared the performance to devil worship, with one person saying they were going to cancel their TV service.
