Phillip Schofield's feature he kept hidden from 19 after being 'forced' by ITV

ITV's This Morning has been thrust into the spotlight in the last few weeks as drama continues to unfold surrounding former presenter Phillip Schofield.

Last week, the 61-year-old quit the series following a rumoured feud with co-star Holly Willoughby, then later he admitted to having an "unwise" but "not illegal" affair with a "much younger" colleague whilst working on the show, writes the Mirror.

Ever since the bombshell revelations came to light, former guests and ex-hosts have been sharing their thoughts on the show, opening up about things ITV might have preferred to remain secret.

An old clip of Phillip has now been shared online, where he said that he was forced into the "grey closet" by ITV, saying they made him dye his hair before he appeared on screen.

Previously, Phillip admitted that his hair starting greying when he was just 16, and by the time he was 19, he had resorted to dyeing his locks.

Speaking on Kem Cetinay's Kem Cuts in 2019, Phillip said: "Well the thing is 16 and I was getting grey hairs – my mum went grey when she was 16. By the time I was 19, I was colouring it and I went to live in New Zealand and that is when I dyed my hair.

"For the first time at 19 – and it was covered up for absolutely ages – and I'm not sure I've said this out loud before so you have a bit of an exclusive here.

"But I just signed a contract for ITV and I decided to let my hair go and my office got a phone call from the Head of ITV saying: 'Can you please tell him to put it back? We didn't hire a grey guy'."

The presenter then added that he was told he looked "like a badger" and he had no choice by to go back "into the grey closet".

On one episode of This Morning, he corrected his former friend Holly Willoughby when she called him "grey-haired", saying: "I like to call it silver as a matter of fact."

ITV have been contacted for comment.
