PGMOL make Nottingham Forest decision after Jurgen Klopp outburst

Paul Tierney will be the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) for Nottingham Forest’s clash against Southampton just over a week after comments from Jurgen Klopp.

The Liverpool manager had an angry outburst at the referee in his post-match interview following his side’s dramatic 4-3 win over Tottenham last weekend. He has since been charged by the FA for his comments, with the Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL) strongly refuting the claims.

"We have our history with Tierney, I really don't know what he has against us," Klopp told Sky Sports at the time. "He has said there [are] no problems but that cannot be true.

"How he looks at me, I don't understand it. In England nobody has to clarify these situations, it's really tricky and hard to understand.

"What he said to me when he gave me the yellow card is not OK."

Klopp has since said that he gave his comments in the heat of the moment, and expected punishment from the FA due to the nature of the claims.

“I probably have to expect a punishment - I think the refs think I questioned the integrity (of their colleague),” he said in his press conference ahead of his side’s clash against Fulham. “When I am calm and sitting here I don’t do that, but in the (heat of the) moment I just describe my feelings.

“I know the refs were really angry about what I said and go now for it.”

It has now been claimed that the PGMOL have opted to take Tierney out of the firing line for the next set of Premier League fixtures. While he is not the man in the middle for any games, he will still play a part in two over the weekend.

Tierney will be in Stockley Park as he takes charge of VAR for Forest’s massive relegation clash against Southampton at the City Ground on Monday evening. The day before he will be fourth official for West Ham vs Manchester United. Michael Oliver will be the man in the middle for Forest vs Saints.

Forest will go into the clash against Southampton knowing what they will need to do in order to climb out of the relegation zone . Leeds United take on Man City at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday afternoon, while Leicester City travel to face Fulham at Craven Cottage at 3pm on Monday, just a few hours before Forest kick off.
