PGA Tour Golfer Mistakenly Tackled by Security While Celebrating Friend’s Canadian Open Win

Things got a little out of hand at the RBC Canadian Open on Sunday after Canadian-born Nick Taylor outlasted the competition to take home an incredible victory.

Taylor, the first Canadian to win the country’s national open in 69 years, caused a frenzy after sinking a walk-off, 72-foot eagle putt on the fourth playoff hole. Taylor’s post-victory celebration was briefly halted, however, when a security guard tackled a man who ran out to celebrate with the 35-year-old.

The only thing is the man was not a crazed fan or any threat at all. It was Taylor’s friend and fellow Canadian PGA Tour golfer Adam Hadwin, who actually competed in the Open and finished tied for 12th place.

Needless to say, the sight of a guard swiftly pummeling Hadwin just as he opened a celebratory bottle made for a wild scene that truly had to be seen to be believed:

While Taylor will likely always still remember the day for his historic win, he’ll probably never let his buddy live down his embarrassing moment. Meanwhile, Hadwin, a pro since 2009, will probably spend—at least—the rest of the night wondering how a fun moment could’ve gone so wrong so fast.

Thankfully, bruised pride appears to be the only “injury” Hadwin walked away with following his unexpected altercation. Hadwin’s wife Jessica later took to Twitter to playfully jab her husband in a hilarious update on his condition.

“Sorry to leave y’all hanging, had to get the toddler ready for bed. I’m thrilled to report that @ahadwingolf is still among the land of the living and in true Canadian form, apologized to the security guard for being tackled,” she tweeted.
