Peter Kay's wedding joke proves he's back on form as he returns to stage after 5 years

Peter Kay has proved he's funnier than ever as made his epic return to stage after five long years this weekend.

The 48-year-old comedian and all-round talent stormed the stage at Manchester Centra where he treated fans to a three-hour-long show with songs from artists including S Club 7 and Abba.

The funnyman started Dance for Life back in 2016 to raise money for Cancer Research UK and his latest event had been rescheduled from 2020.

Peter's latest show marks one of the comedian’s first public appearances since being forced to cancel a huge tour in 2017 citing 'unforeseen family circumstances'.

And after five long years, he took to the stage with an epic gag which had the entire audience howling.

After arriving on stage twenty minutes late, Peter quipped: "Sorry we’re late, they’re a bit slow coming in.

"A lot of you won’t get a chance to dance anymore. If you’re like me, it’ll be every four years at a wedding for about 11 minutes until they play something modern and you sit down because you feel about 100."

The epic tour's profits will be donated to Cancer Research UK, with the event billed as 'the dance-a-thon party that will change lives.'

Last month Peter joined Instagram to promote his new tour.

Peter's new Instagram account only boats two photos – one shows a shot of the comedian and another is of a promotional poster for his new show.

"Extra tickets just released for Peter Kay's Dance for Life in Manchester and Liverpool," the caption teased.

It comes after Peter cancelled his tour in December 2017, citing 'unforeseen family circumstances' as his reason for calling a halt to it.

At the time, he took to Twitter to make the shock announcement.

"Due to unforeseen family circumstances, I deeply regret that I am having to cancel all of my upcoming work projects.

"This unfortunately includes my upcoming standup tour, Dance for Life shows and any outstanding live work commitments.

"My sincerest apologies. This decision has not been taken lightly and I'm sure you'll understand my family must always come first."

Dance For Life heads to London’s Alexandra on April 29.

It will then return for two nights at Liverpool’s Space by M&S Bank Arena on August 19 and 20.
