During the June Xbox Games Showcase 2026, Persona fans finally got their first true look at the long-awaited remake of Persona 4 with a new trailer for Persona 4: Revival.
Persona 4: Revival will follow in the footsteps of Persona 3: Reload by updating the original Persona 4 with next-gen graphics and improved turn-based combat while preserving the spirit of the original game's story and characters.
The game is set to launch on February 18, 2027, for Xbox Series X|S, Xbox Game Pass (Day One), Xbox on PC, Xbox Cloud Gaming, PlayStation 5, and PC via Steam. It's now available for wishlisting, while its Deluxe Edition is available for pre-ordering.
Windows Central's take
For those who are unaware, Persona 4 told the story of a group of high school students looking to solve the mystery of an otherworldly dimension called the Midnight Channel while tracking a serial killer who's terrorizing their hometown of Inaba.
Judging from this trailer, it looks like the story will most likely play out like the original game while incorporating elements of Persona 4: Golden and new scenes where you get to hang with your friends to strengthen your bonds.
One such mechanic is the new "Series Finale" attacks, which will allow characters to perform super moves that will decimate enemies similarly to Persona 5:Royal's Showtime attacks or Persona 3: Reload's Theurgies.
Gameplay-wise, the dungeon-crawling with turn-based combat appears to be faithfully intact in the remake, while adding new mechanics to help players defeat enemies.
Either way, I'm happy to see Persona 4: Revival looking so good because I loved the original Persona 4 back in the late 2000s on the PlayStation 2. Its story and character development were the deepest the series has seen to date; the music was catchy, and the combat was tough but fun.
So seeing Persona 4 given the modern-day upgrades Persona 3 got with Persona 3: Reload makes me giddy with joy, and I can't wait to play it when it comes out on Xbox on February 18, 2027.
