Person hit by train on rail line between Cumbernauld and Motherwell

A person has been hit on the rail line between Cumbernauld and Motherwell.

Police and paramedics are currently at the scene. Scotrail has advised a number of services between the stations in Lanarkshire have been cancelled or delayed due to the emergency.

Disruption is expected until around 10am, according to the rail operator.

Scotrail tweeted: " The emergency services are dealing with an incident between Cumbernauld and Motherwell, and services between these stations will be cancelled, delayed, or revised."

A British Transport Police spokesman said: ‘British Transport Police were called to the line near Coatbridge Central railway station at 7.07am this morning (11 April) following reports of a casualty on the tracks.

"Paramedics also attended, and a man has been taken to a local hospital. At this time his injuries are deemed life-threatening.

"This incident is not being treated as suspicious.’
