Back in 2014 Manchester United were in a worrying state of disarray.
Legendary manager Sir Alex Ferguson had retired and handed the reins of England's biggest football club to David Moyes, who struggled to maintain the high levels of his compatriot and was subsequently sacked less than a year after being named boss.
Man United would eventually go on to hire Louis van Gaal, but there was a period when Ryan Giggs was in interim charge of the club and Ferguson apparently took it upon himself to right his wrong in suggesting Moyes for the job and land Pep Guardiola.

At the time, Guardiola was managing over in Germany with Bayern Munich after four extremely successful years at Barcelona. And Ferguson believed the Spaniard could be tempted with a move to the Premier League.
Guardiola recalled his private meeting with Ferguson, where he admits that due to his then-poor grasp of the English language, he's not sure to this day whether he was actually offered the Manchester United job or not.
"He invite me to [a] super restaurant and we had a very, very good time. My English [was] not so good when Sir Alex [Ferguson] speak a little bit quickly, I had sometimes had a problem understanding him," explained Guardiola.
"That's why I didn't understand if I received an offer or not. It was a friendly dinner, like always with me when I started as a coach, he was so so gentle and we spent a very, very good time together."
As aforementioned, United would go on and hire Van Gaal rather than attempt to buy Guardiola out of his Bayern Munich contract. Although, the Spaniard did of course eventually make his way to the Premier League.
After three years with Bayern, Guardiola joined Manchester City in 2016 where he has remained since, winning three Premier League titles, an FA Cup and four League Cups.
