Pep Guardiola makes Liverpool claim after Jurgen Klopp sets stunning record

Your Liverpool morning headlines for Monday, April 4.

'I know' - Pep Guardiola makes Liverpool claim after Man City 'concern'

Pep Guardiola has admitted he was unsure as to how his Manchester City side would react in their match with Burnley on Saturday after being knocked down to second place in the Premier League by title rivals Liverpool.

Goals from Diogo Jota and Fabinho secured a 2-0 win in the early kick off at Anfield on Saturday and Liverpool briefly leapfrogged City to move to the summit of the league - for a couple of hours at least.

City had the three points wrapped up at Turf Moor by half-time after goals from Kevin De Bruyne and Ilkay Gundogan and a blockbuster clash between Liverpool and City will take place on Sunday at the Etihad Stadium.

Liverpool’s quest to go into the record books took a step forward this week, but a hint of reality still remains. The Reds claimed a 2-0 win over Watford in the Premier League on Saturday, thanks to goals from Diogo Jota and Fabinho, from the penalty spot.

That win may have only moved Liverpool to the top of the Premier League for a couple of hours, but it was a significant victory nevertheless. You could feel the huge sigh of relief when Fabinho’s penalty found the back of the net - before that the mood around Anfield was very nervous and edgy, but that quickly evaporated after the spot-kick.

Jurgen Klopp's side remain one point behind leaders Man City in the title race, with their showdown at the Etihad Stadium to come next week. The final few weeks of the season are set up to be arguably the most hectic and enthralling in Liverpool’s recent history.

Liverpool’s two year absence from the Women’s Super League will come to an end next season after they secured the FA Women’s Championship title and promotion back to the top flight with two games to spare. It wasn't straightforward and it was nervy at times, but a 4-2 win over their closest challengers Bristol City was enough to see them surge over the line.

The squad gathered on the touchline as the clock ticked into additional time, waiting eagerly to flood the pitch and celebrate their achievements. Despite their best efforts, there was no way back for the hosts after substitute Missy Bo Kearns buried Liverpool's fourth of the afternoon on 79 minutes and all but sealed the title.

It's been two years in the making following their relegation from the WSL in 2020. The 2019/20 season was one of mixed emotions for the club, while the men's team marched to their first Premier League title in 30 years, the women’s side found themselves battling for survival at the bottom of the WSL table.
