A name well known in the field of cricket, the legendary Virendar Sehwag. Now his son Aaryavir Sehwag made headlines as he debuted for India U19 in the three match series against Australia U19. Aaryavir started strong in all the three matches giving a good start to India. Combined in all the three match series he made an impressive 109 runs and India won the series by 3-0.
During an interview with NDTV, Virendar Sehwag spoke about his son Aaryavir’s cricket journey and the advice he gave him for his cricketing journey.
Virender Sehwag Proud Of Son Aaryavir's Cricket Journey
Former India opener Virender Sehwag has spoken about his son Aaryavir Sehwag’s cricket journey and the advice he has given him while making his way through the sport. Sehwag said he has encouraged his son to play without being weighed down by expectations or the pressure to score big.
"I am very proud of Aaryavir Sehwag. I gave him advice that, you know, pressure is there but go out there and play freely. Express yourself, don't worry that you have to score big runs. If you express yourself, the big runs will automatically come. But if you think about big runs, then I don't think the big runs will come," Sehwag said.
Sehwag's Advice On Dealing With Criticism
Sehwag also spoke about the importance of staying focused on the game instead of being affected by reactions from the people. He said he had advised Aaryavir to concentrate on his own performance and development rather than worrying about public opinion.
"I was telling him that people will love you, people will criticize you, people will hate you, but you should not react to what people are saying. You should be happy with whatever you are doing.
"If you are scoring runs, you know that you did well. If you're not scoring runs, you know you didn't do well. So you should focus on your process and your skills and on your practice rather than worrying about what people are saying. Let them say whatever they want to say, you focus on your game," Sehwag said.
Aaryavir Has Followed His Father Virender Sehwag’s Advice
Sehwag further said he was pleased to see that Aaryavir had taken his advice seriously and did not allow his performances to dictate his reaction to outside criticism. The young cricketer has represented Delhi at the Under-19 level, experiencing both success and periods when he did not score.
"He said, 'yeah', and he did (listen). He played U19 for Delhi; he scored runs, he didn't score runs, but he didn't react. So that's the best thing. Sometimes he will get upset, but he is a kid you know. He is an 18-year-old boy and he is just learning," Sehwag said.
Who Is Aaryavir Sehwag?
Aaryavir is Virender Sehwag's eldest son, having been born in October 2007. He has followed his father's path into cricket and has represented Delhi at the Under-19 level.
