People have a whip round to save their local pub and they manage to raise a huge sum of money

People from "near and far" have managed to come up with a six figure sum in just seven days in a bid to save a Welsh pub from closure. A volunteer community is hoping to buy the Crymych Arms in Pembrokeshire for £275,000 and has set up a community shares bank account.

The share offer was launched on an open day on April 1 and £58,400 worth of shares were sold on the first day. Seven days later that total had risen to £132,100.

It is hoped that the pub - which would also be the headquarters for the local football team - could be bought and re-opened by this coming July. The pub pulled its final pint in September 2021.
