Jana Sena Party (JSP) president Pawan Kalyan has said that the ‘lopsided decisions’ of the Andhra Pradesh government are responsible for massive power cuts in the State.
Mr. Pawan Kalyan told the media in Hyderabad on Friday that the rural areas in the State were facing rampant power cuts ranging from 11 hours to 14 hours, while the urban areas were facing load shedding for 5 to 8 hours.
“The State was in power surplus before 2014. Between 2014 and 2019, the then government was able to manage the situation quite well. The YSRCP government had done away with the Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) of the previous government which had signed an MoU with the Greenco to supply power at the rate of ₹4.80 per unit. The YSRCP government has signed a new MoU with another company to provide power at ₹20 per unit. Hence, the government is forced to spend thousands of crores of additional money to provide power. How will industries cope up with this situation?” asked the JSP chief.
Mr. Pawan Kalyan also said that the YSRCP government had increased power tariff by 57%, while going back on its promise of providing power free up to 200 units.
“How can a common man live by consuming below 200 units this summer? The slab is hardly sufficient for people and they are spending 50% more money on power,” said Mr. Pawan Kalyan and warned that he would not tolerate personal attacks against him by the ruling party leaders.
