Paul Mescal fans 'howling' at driving school post after Oscar nomination

Paul Mescal's former driving school have a post on Facebook congratulating him on his Oscar nomination.

The actor, best known for playing Connell in BBC's adaptation of Sally Rooney's novel Normal People, has been nominated for a Best Actor Oscar for his role in his new film, Aftersun. He stars with Frankie Corio, who plays his daughter reflecting on their relationship 20 years on from the last holiday they went on.

Mescal's performance and nomination have been praised far and wide, including his old driving school, Leinster Driving School. A screenshot of the post has since gone viral on Twitter.

The post reads: "Massive congratulations to past student of Leinster Driving Campus, Oscar nominee and superstar, Mr Paul Mescal.

"You have put Maynooth on the map Paul and we are all so proud of your achievements so far. Enjoy Oscar night and hopefully you'll bring home the gold."

Yesterday (Wednesday 25) it emerged that the 26-year-old received his Academy Award nod at the same time his mum is about to undergo chemotherapy after his sister tweeted an image of the family on a facetime call. The Maynooth native learned he was in the running for best actor alongside huge names like Colin Farrell, Bill Nighy, and Brendan Fraser.

Some found it hilarious that Leinster Driving School were trying to 'claim' Paul Mescal, with York Student Cinema tweeting the screenshot and saying: "Make sure to come and see Leinster Driving Campus student Paul Mescal on our screen on Monday night for Aftersun".

More replied to the tweet expressing their glee, with one person tweeting: "Howling at Paul Mescals’ driving school shouting him out.”
