The New England Patriots have interviewed several of the top quarterbacks for the 2024 NFL draft throughout the week at the NFL Scouting Combine. That includes USC quarterback Caleb Williams.
However, their approach to the Williams interview was a bit different from other teams.
Often times, interviews are given in a crowded room, but New England had only a few members of the coaching staff in the room. That small group likely included front office executive Eliot Wolf, coach Jerod Mayo and offensive coordinator Alex Van Pelt.
Williams discussed the different approach with media members on Friday.
“The Patriots were cool. The room wasn’t as packed,” Williams said. “…They asked me questions about life, about ball.”

This is certainly notable, given that the Patriots need to do their homework at a position of need. Williams is projected to be the top quarterback in the draft, and New England owns the No. 3 overall pick.
Time will tell what the Patriots do when it’s their turn on the clock on Night 1. For now, they’ll continue doing their due diligence to ensure they have enough information to make the best possible decision for the team.
