Patrick Clancy says the first thing he noticed was that his wife had stopped sleeping. In his first televised interview since the murder trial of his former wife, Lindsay Clancy, the Massachusetts father told CBS News' 60 Minutes that he knew almost nothing about postpartum mental illness when those sleepless nights began in October 2022. The segment aired Sunday, Sept. 20.
That admission raises a question many new families never ask until it becomes urgent: When a new mother is getting sicker, who is supposed to notice? In many households, the answer is the person closest to her, usually a partner who has also been awake with a newborn for weeks.
