'Desperate patients' have been left feeling so weak after paying their living costs that they are being forced to take drastic measures, says one Greater Manchester GP. People have been contacting the doctor asking for 'help to buy food, even be prescribed nutritional shakes', as eating has become simply unaffordable.

Patients have also been revealing how 'humiliating' and 'embarrassing' they find seeking help during financial struggles, says the doctor, as people minimise their own difficulties by comparing themselves to those 'worse off in war'.
