Pascal Struijk says Leeds United must keep a 'positive mind' after Aston Villa defeat

Leeds United defender Pascal Struijk believes that his side must keep 'a positive mind' following their 3-0 defeat against Aston Villa on Thursday night.

The Whites were comfortably beaten at Elland Road, as Phillipe Coutinho scored a deflected opener, before Matty Cash and Callum Chambers compiled the misery on Leeds to wrap up the three points.

It was a frustrating evening for Jesse Marsch, who was hoping his team could build on a positive performance at Leicester City, but it was a complete contrast.

Villa were much better in and out of the possession, which will be a concern to the American boss. It is a result that leaves the Whites in 16th, just two points above the relegation zone.

Struijk, who started the game alongside Luke Ayling at centre-back, believes that the Whites need to keep believing as they try to stay in the division.

He told LUTV: "I think the team spirit [was lacking]. The gaffer said we won the first duel after 20 minutes, that cannot happen. So, it's important as a team that we give 100% and do better than this.

"We don't let the pressure get to us. Of course we are aware, but we just have to keep a positive mind and try to go forward and get some points."

Leeds have now conceded 24 goals in their last six games - the worst record in the Premier League this season.

When asked about that return, Struijk has claimed that the Whites must be better defensively.

He added: "It's something that's really big. We shouldn't be conceding so many goals and it's something we must look out for in the future."
