Paris, Ky. public school students prep for ‘Super Bowl Monday’

Public school students in Paris, Kentucky won’t have to worry about getting up early for school the morning after the Super Bowl. Paris Independent Schools Superintendent Stephen McCauley said the school board’s calendar committee recommended they swap President’s Day for what’s been dubbed Super Bowl Monday. The school board said yes and McCauley said kids and adults agree with the call.

“Absolutely. I've heard it from my kids, you know, my two kids here in the school district. So they're excited. I'm excited. You know, if we have school on Monday, I'm getting up pretty early. So I usually go to bed right after halftime. So it's kind of nice that we'll be able to stay up. Hopefully, it's a great game.”

McCauley said he hasn’t heard any blowback about swapping days off and planning for next school year’s calendar is underway, with Super Bowl Monday likely to get several replays.

“I have a feeling it will be a yearly thing. Like I said, it's been overall very well received. And I think people are excited about that additional time with families and not having to rush from the party and things of that nature.”

The Paris Independent School District has four schools and 815 students – and a funny video on their Facebook page with McCauley and youngsters celebrating Super Bowl Monday.
