Palestinian Prime Minister Mohammad Shtayyeh stressed that the parliamentary elections Israel will hold on Tuesday will not come up with a “partner for peace.”
Speaking at a cabinet meeting on Monday, Shtayyeh said Israel’s electoral campaigns were based on more violations against the Palestinian people.
“The world should demand the next Israeli prime minister to announce his readiness to end the occupation and the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and commit to the two-state solution based on the international legitimacy,” he urged.
He called on Israel not to deprive others what it allows itself of, in reference to the upcoming elections.
“Israel, which claims to be the only democratic state in the Middle East deprives Palestinians from their right to vote and prevents elections in Jerusalem, in violation of agreements.”
The world must compel Israel to allow Palestinians to hold elections across the Palestinian territories, including Jerusalem, the PM added.
Israelis will vote for the fifth time in four years on Tuesday, amid an internal political stalemate.
Shtayyeh also called on the international community to assume its political, legal and moral responsibilities towards the Palestinian people under occupation.
He stressed that Palestinians are facing a fierce killing and arrests campaigns and siege in Nablus, Jerusalem, Hebron, Jenin and Gaza.
