Packers offensive line passes test vs. Ravens in joint practice

Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love said he is “comfortable” with the first-team offensive line after a terrific collective performance blocking the defense of the Baltimore Ravens during Thursday’s joint practice.

The Ravens produced 60 sacks during the 2023 season. On Thursday in Green Bay, Love was mostly undisturbed in the pocket.

“They did a great job. It was fantastic today,” Love said post-practice. “The Ravens do a lot of different stuff, a lot of different pressures they throw at you, and I think those guys handled it really well up front. We had a couple of protection adjustments, but they did a really good job of just being able to pass those off and figuring out who they need to pick up. I felt good back there all day, so shout-out to the O-line.”

The Packers employed Rasheed Walker at left tackle, Elgton Jenkins at left guard, Josh Myers at center, Sean Rhyan at right guard and Zach Tom at right tackle, a combination used on many snaps down the stretch of last season. First-round pick Jordan Morgan, a competitor at right guard, is still making his way back from a shoulder injury.

“I feel comfortable with the whole group,” Love said.

If there’s a question mark for the Packers offensive line entering 2024, it might be the offensive line. Rhyan or Morgan would be a first-time full-time starter. Myers has been up and down. Walker and Tom are going into their second seasons as starters at tackle. And depth could be an issue after losing Jon Runyan Jr. and Yosh Nijman in free agency.

One joint practice is just one joint practice, but the Packers passed a big test.

The offense will hope the confidence of camp carries over into September. In two weeks, the deep and talented defensive front of the Philadelphia Eagles will be awaiting Love and the Packers in Brazil. Can the offensive line step up and provide the solid foundation of what could be one of the NFL’s most explosive offenses?
