Owain Wyn Evans' brilliant response to troll who called him ‘an effeminate, limp-wristed drummer’

Weatherman Owain Wyn Evans had a perfect response to a troll who described him as 'an effeminate, limp-wristed drummer'.

Ammanford -born Owain raised more than £2million for Children in Need last November, when he completed a non-stop 24-hour drumming challenge. The journalist and broadcaster played with a chorus of 50 drummers for an entire day and night, with five-minute breaks every hour.

It featured appearances from some of rock's great drummers, including Clem Burke of Blondie and Iron Maiden's Nicko McBrain - while Foo Fighter frontman Dave Grohl sent a message of good luck. The challenge came after a video he'd made of himself drumming the BBC News theme went viral.

But none of his efforts impressed one keyboard warrior, who tweeted to the One Show reporter: "Keith Moon would be turning in his grave if he had to witness that limp-wristed, effeminate attempt to play the drums". Owain played drums in groups in clubs across the Swansea Valley region when he was growing up, having first picked up the sticks aged seven. Keith Moon, original drummer of sixties icons The Who, until his death from excess aged 32, was one of the genuine wild men of rock. Flamboyant with a love for dressing up, he frequently posed for photos in drag or women's underwear.

A fact which Owain turned back on his troll.

He wrote: "Good morning dahlings! As you know, I am more than happy with my limp-wristed, effeminate drumming. Keith Moon, as well as being an amazing drummer, enjoyed dressing up in drag… so would probably have approved of a camp drummer."

To prove his point he tweeted a gallery of photos where Moonie, as he was known, is in women's clothing. And his riposte received plenty of support, including one response featuring a photo of the Foo Fighters in drag. And The Strictly Come Dancing Band tweeted: "Nothing wrong with your drumming, wrists or anything you do. You rock and Moonie would love the way you do things."
