The latest bombardments coincided with Russian president Vladimir Putin 's 74th birthday.
Kyiv residents were forced into underground shelters after Ukraine 's Air Force warned of approaching bombers.
President Volodymyr Zelensky warned that intelligence indicates Russia is preparing a massive strike across the country.
Zelensky appealed to US and European allies for the political will to continue providing vital air defence support.
