Over 250 data centres in pipeline by 2030; to create 4.3 lakh jobs, drive housing demand: Report

New Delhi, India's data centre sector is expected to generate around 4.3 lakh direct and indirect jobs across major cities, creating an estimated housing demand of 195 million sq ft by 2030, according to Square Yards.

Real estate consultant Square Yards, which is also into home loan brokerage, on Monday released a report, highlighting that India's rapidly expanding data centre ecosystem is set to become a significant driver of housing demand in the coming years.

The report mentioned that more than 250 data centres are proposed in India by 2030.

"India's proposed data centre pipeline of approximately 9,030 MW has the potential to generate nearly 4.33 lakh ecosystem jobs, translating into an estimated 195 million square feet of residential space demand by 2030," the consultant said.

Of this, 27,000 jobs will be direct while more than 4.06 lakh would be ancillary jobs.

Square Yards report mentioned that data centres create value by attracting investments in power infrastructure, fibre connectivity, logistics, commercial establishments and supporting services.

Vivek Agarwal, co-founder and Chief Technology Officer, Square Yards, said, "For decades, India's real estate growth has been shaped by highways, industrial corridors, airports and IT parks. Data centres represent the next evolution of that story".

Investments in power, fibre connectivity and logistics create confidence for businesses, developers and institutions, eventually driving residential and commercial growth around these emerging digital corridors, he added.

"We believe data centres will increasingly serve as infrastructure anchors that redefine how cities expand in the coming years," Agarwal said.

Unicorn Square Yards has a presence in India, West Asia, Australia, and North America markets.
