Our Liverpool: man's astonishing legacy goes under the hammer

Good Morning and welcome to today's first Our Liverpool.

I heard about Ron's Place not too long after I'd first arrived in Liverpool three years ago, shortly after it had been discovered by his family. Then a couple of weeks ago I was given the opportunity to actually visit the Oxton treasure, and it was worth the wait.

It's a whole flat with its five rooms completely covered in what can perhaps be best described as it's creator's legacy - the walls are covered in paintings, huge fireplaces have been constructed painstakingly out of concrete and the rooms are full of homemade "props" used by Ron to perform. It's astonishing and a genuine cultural asset to Birkenhead.

Yet, today it goes under the hammer after the landlord announced the decision to sell the property in November.

Man's astonishing legacy goes under the hammer

Ron's Place has wowed all those who've been in since the discovery was first made in 2020 by his family after his death the year previous. Ron did his own things in his own magical, flamboyant way and the flat is a testament to that.

Ron's niece Jan thought she had longer to lease the flat and find a way to pay Ron's landlord back. However she and the Wirral Arts and Culture Community Land Trust are now putting on an impressive last-ditch effort to save her uncle's legacy. Wesley Holmes has the story.

Hillsborough victim memorialised

A group of Liverpool fan's have added a new chair to their Hillsborough memorial after Adam Devine was recognised as the 97th victim of the disaster. Adam was 22 at the time of the disaster and wasn't expected to survive the injuries he suffered on the day.

The chair has been placed next to a bench constructed in 2010 out of 96 slats of wood. The group said they "had to do something" after Adam's death.
