Meghan Markle has let it be known that she has ”reached out to her father”. Thomas Markle is ill, very ill, and has said that he wants to see her “one last time before I die”. He has not seen since her marriage to Prince Harry. She has, it seems, “personally called several hospitals” in the Philippines where he lives to get in touch; her aides are said to be on the case. Sources say she would like to send him a “handwritten card”, perhaps with one of the personal touches deployed in her Netflix lifestyle series (a sprig of rosemary, perhaps, for remembrance?). Trouble is, when she emailed him, it would seem she used an address he hasn’t used for years. She has also been in touch with the Mail on Sunday which reported on her father’s illness for contact details - because how else can an affectionate daughter talk to her father except with the assistance of a national newspaper?
We can only hope that she manages somehow to make contact with him. Because he has said, “I don’t want to die estranged”. Perhaps the fact that her efforts are broadcast all over social media may alert him to her efforts - he says he has not received any messages; maybe he should simply send a Christmas card to Montecito. But time may be running out for the dispatch of that card, signed off presumably: “With Love, Meghan”.
