Jesse Marsch is the clear bookmakers’ favourite to become the next Leeds United manager following Marcelo Bielsa’s departure this morning.
Bielsa was relieved of his duties after a run of four successive defeats and with the club sat just two points above the bottom three.
The Argentine’s successor will have almost irreplaceable shoes to fill following the job he has done during his 170-game spell at the Whites.
Bielsa reinvigorated a Championship team going nowhere as he repaired the relationship between the club and its supporters through both his on and off the field achievements.
The new man, though, will be faced with continuing Bielsa’s legacy at Elland Road and the first major task in doing so is maintaining the club’s Premier League status.
Several reports, as well as the bookies, state Marsch is the club’s number one target and according to the club, an announcement on Bielsa’s successor could arrive as soon as tomorrow.
Marsch was sacked from his last role in management at RB Leipzig after less than half a season in charge but did an excellent job at RB Salzburg prior to that, winning two successive domestic doubles.
With Marsch now huge odds-on favourite to take the vacant role with the Whites, Betfair spokesperson Sam Rosbottom said: “Marcelo Bielsa’s time at Leeds has come to an end and the betting suggests 1/11 favourite to takeover Jessse Marsch is the man to fill his shoes.
